It’s no secret that fall is one of the most magical times to be in Acadia. No one does colorful leaves quite like New England, and when combined with the striking land and seascapes of Mount Desert Island, what you get is a world-class photographic opportunity. We’ll take you to a few of the iconic viewpoints, but we’ll also take you to lesser-known locations, where it’s easier to find peace and quiet, and where you can tune in to your own artistic vision and make personally expressive and meaningful images. Our itinerary pays close attention to the progress of foliage and the weather. Our goal is to put you in place to capture some of the best images you’ve ever captured, and also to teach you a thing or two that you can then apply to your photography practice going forward.
This is a small group workshop designed to help you improve your photography. Join Adrian Klein and Ben Williamson, who are kind, patient, and attentive to your needs. We work with participants at all levels in their journey. In addition to field instruction, we also provide classroom time to cover techniques to help you utilize the digital darkroom technology to meet your photographic vision. We also have image review sessions with kind and constructive feedback. Seeing how others in the group capture the same scenes in different ways can be one of the most enlightening and enjoyable parts of the workshop. We celebrate that and want to help you hone your own unique point of view.
A chance to photograph a variety of scenes and subjects throughout the workshop.
We are here to help you throughout the workshop, whether you have just a couple questions or many.

These can range on a variety of topics, expect one or two during this workshop.

We will meet at ~2:00 pm at the lobby of the hotel we are based out of in Bar Harbor, ME. We will go over logistics and do introductions. Then, we will head out for a sunset session, followed by an optional no-host dinner near the hotel.
The plan is to have time in the field, mostly focused on the first few hours and the last few hours of each day. Additionally, we will have one or two days of class-type sessions that include participant image reviews, processing tips, and a presentation or two. The weather forecast and conditions leading up to the workshop will determine the timing of these events throughout the workshop. We want to remain flexible in order to be out in the field during optimal times when possible.
Some field sessions will require hiking 1 to 2 miles with a low to moderate grade.
We will finish up the workshop with a morning field session, heading out from our lodging in Bath, ME. We anticipate concluding ~9:30 am, followed by a no-host optional breakfast before checking out and heading home.
